Cliveden XC - December 30th

The final, and possibly toughest run of the year at the beautiful Cliveden estate. Despite near-perfect conditions underfoot, times were down this year - was the course a bit longer? Those #!"$%& steps certainly weren't short!

The indestructible and indefatigable Jim Butcher was surely the most impressive Dasher: despite being one of the oldest competitors in the field, Jim beat people 30 years younger than him!

Ahead, almost everyone finished in the top half of their age categories, with Andrea and Amanda performing particularly well to finish 13th and 16th in their respective categories. Gary paced himself very well to finish a good 15th (23rd overall), while Chris Taylor just missed out in 4th place in the M40 category.

Handy Cross XC - December 2nd

Warm sun, cool beer, and a hotel full of models from L'Oreal studios... oh hang on, that was Cyprus. The Chilterns were a little less clement with strong winds, lots of mud and just a few lung-busting hills. Why run? Because you're worth it, of course!

Congrats to all who ran, with the men doing particularly well to finish as 4th team!

Cabbage Patch 10m - October 14th

With the sun deigning to make an appearance for the last event in the Club Championship, and for the post-run pub lunch, there was some excellent running. Mike B came in comfortably under the hour, followed by Steve who threw caution to the wind and stormed to a 5m, 10k and 10m pb in the same race! Wow. James too saw that his marathon preparation is on target with another pb.

First lady home was Lucy, who continued her return to full training and fitness with a solid 70-minute performance. Not too far behind was Denisa, who seems to be steadily improving at the moment.

Special mention should go to Tony who broke the 80% age-grading barrier, the sign of quality running. Such is the veteran standard at the Cabbage Patch though that he was only the 14th MV50!

Do let me know if you got a pb!

Tough it indeed was, with very little fast ground, and quite a few twisty or hilly parts. Sore legs all round today!

There were good results for the club, with the winner, 3 men in the top 10, Lucy picking up 3rd senior lady, and Tom and Elaine finishing second senior man (in 45:57) and woman (in 45:56) respectively in the Tough 5.

Berlin Marathon - September 30th

He just keeps getting faster! No, not Gebreselassie, but Andy Cooney who chipped another minute off his best to run an excellent 2:38:16 at the uber-flat Berlin marathon. To put it in perspective, only two people at the club have run a half marathon faster than Andy does two of 'em back-to-back!

Virginia Water Paddle - August 26th

The earlier start caught out a few people, but it meant cooler conditions and marginally fewer dogs.

The first three men were well clear of the field, and of each other; Chris B pushed from the off and maintained a fast pace all the way round with only 15s difference between the laps; JD gained 20s over Simon Black in the first lap and another 20s during the second, leaving Simon and Steve Hopkins isolated. Behind them came the charge though, with 6 men in the next minute.

Michelle Allmark was clearly the fastest lady, some 6 minutes clear of Kate, who was in turn a minute ahead of Leslie. Amy came next, closely followed by Dee and Kathryn who ran together and managed to run the second lap notably faster than the first.

Swanage Half Marathon - July 28th

19 went mad in Dorset as the Dashers Did Swanage - and then some. It wasn't easy, as the somewhat hilly terrain and, dare I say, "unseasonally" warm weather slowed everyone down. Somehow though, everyone still had energy for the Sunday morning Donkey Derby... photos will be posted soon!

The breakthrough and loudest-cheered result of the day was for Max who was the 2nd lady under 35 (6th lady overall) home in an excellent 1:41:48.

The men won the team prize, with "Bambi" Bradfield 3rd overall, Andy Cooney 6th, Jonathan Davies 9th and James Street 26th.

More details to follow...

Woodland 5 (and a bit) - July 25th

An good turnout on a cool evening, ideal for running. The course was surprisingly water-free after the recent downpours, although there was enough mud to keep the cross-country fans happy.

Simon and Steve continued their rivalry, which Simon comfortably having the better of Steve on this occasion. Behind them, Colin had a good run to come home some way ahead of Doug.

Leading the ladies home was Andrea who looked strong all the way round, but Michelle wasn't far behind.

St Ives Dairy Crest 10k - July 22nd

Simon Black reports... "Me and Kathryn ran a 10k yesterday and despite drinking the night before and a distinct lack of sleep, we both had reasonable training runs. A nice course with a couple of minor undulations, but not what we would call hilly, although a little hot to really push too hard."

Battersea Park 10k - July 21st

An 8 o'clock start on a Saturday is far from ideal, but this is a fast, flat course that offers pb potential. But not for me :-)

Handy Cross 5k - July 10th

The long grass, and a bit of a breeze when running up the Rye meant times were a little slower than of late at the 100th race in the local series. Well done to all who ran, especially those who got pbs.
