Bearwood College XC - December 18th

A beautiful frosted morning, and an exciting course that was, for once, firm underfoot led to much quicker times than in previous years. At the front, y.t. used the right shoes and a rest day to make up for last week's "blip", and Mike ran a canny race to pull into an easy 3rd place on the 2nd lap. There was good packing from Chris Hunt, Tony Curtin, Ryan Worth, Ross McDonough and Paul Tomlinson to complete the men's team, which finished 5th.

For the first time this season, we fielded a complete womens' team! Congratulations to Salome and Mandy who came in close together, with Isabelle completing the team a couple of minutes back. There were good runs too from Leslie Wege and Caroline Briggs. The womens' team finished 7th, which, when combined with the mens' score, led to the club finishing 5th overall of 13 teams, a very satisfactory result.

Handy Cross XC - December 11th

Mud mud mud, hills hills hills! Need I say any more about the toughest course in the league? Well, yes - Mike Bradfield made a return to the top 10, jogging home with a very tired and road-shoe-shod brother (just getting my excuses in!); Mike May went mud-diving; everyone struggled through the foot-deep mud by the stables; and yet again it was Mel who gave led by example for the F, coming an admirable 35th - but where was everyone else?

The mens' team finished 6th, the F 11th, which placed us 7th overall (of 13).

The next XC is at Bearwood college, in Sindlesham, near Wokingham. It's the most beautiful course of the lot, so do come along for some pre-Christmas entertainment!

Sandhurst XC - November 27th

Brrr! Sandhurst is always cold, and this year was no exception. It's one of the tougher courses, and there were a lot of tired legs at the end, especially after climbing the long last hill. Things were livened up this year, with extra mud, seemingly thousands of horses, and the army all making appearances on the course. Mike Bradfield made a rare appearance to gambol to 16th place, with Ian, Lee, Martin, Mike May and Dave G packing well to make up the team. Helen Jones was the first lady home in an excellent 44:38, beating more than half the men who ran for the club; she was ably backed-up by Mel, but unfortunately they were the only two ladies to turn out (we only need three for a team!).

Overall, in the team competition, the Dashers placed 8th of 13 teams.

Please note that these results are provisional and may change.

Cabbage Patch 10m - October 16th

A cool, crisp clear day with a little wind meant that times were fast. With the first 3 men under 50 minutes, the quality at the front was outstanding, and many Dashers were rewarded with excellent times too. Ross was the first man home, closely followed by Ian, who was the 3rd M60 across the line to add to his great recent performances. Ralph, James and Sharon packed in close behind, with Sharon taking 6 minutes off her previous best time!

Windsor Half Marathon - September 25th

Well done to everyone who ran at Windsor on a surprisingly hot day, which generally led to slower times than previous years. Ian won the M60 category by an incredible 15 minutes, and the club won the athletics club team prize (this latter piece of information might change - unusually the www.runwindsor.com website only shows one team competition, and does not differentiate between men's and women's teams).

Updated 13:30, Monday 26th September - many thanks to Dave Priddy who spotted all the missing Dashers...

Updated 21:30, Tuesday 27th September - added the speeding James Street to the results.

Virginia Water Paddle - August 21st

A beautiful summer's day with clear blue skies made for great running conditions and some excellent times. Chris Hunt went off like a rocket and was never in danger of being caught, with Jonathon and Ross having a close scrap for second. For the F, Lucy Buckby ran 2 consistently fast laps to take the victory by some way from Windle Valley's Wendy Davies and our very own Caroline Bolton.

Datchet 5k, July 19th

Many thanks to all the Dashers who brought food, marshalled and helped out in any way on the night, at what was a well-run event on a lovely summer's evening. With apologies for the delay in getting the results out (due to a number of runners without numbers). Congratulations too to all those who ran - there were some very impressive times across the board.

Full results for all runners.

Race for Life, July 14th

Congratulations to Sharon Helsby who won this 5k event on a twisting and undulating course in a very good time of 19m 30s.

Brickmakers Relay, July 9th

Dave Glazier reports:

Datchet Dashers fielded a mixed ability team for this event which was one lap of 2.8 miles and nine laps of 2.6 miles ( to make up the Marathon distance of 26.2 miles).

They were in eigth place after the initial 2.8 leg ran by Jonathen Davies in 16.36 and then see sawed between 8th and 12th places as the middle order ran steady times,Lucy Buckby in 17.02,Salome Godwin in 19.36,Lee O Flaherty in an excellent 16.52,Pam Jackson in 19.31,Colin Adams in 18.21,Dave Glazier in 18.54,Mandy Ramsey in 18.37.

They then released their secret weapon with Ian Spencer going off in 12th place and pulling one back in a time of 16.41 followed by Ross McDonough running the fastest 2.6 leg of 16.22 and pulling the team back another three places to a very good 9th out of the 31 teams.

Of course the team had to retire to the nearby Brickmakers Arms pub for rehdryation.

Runnymede Relays, June 25th

Congratulations every single member of the 5 teams of 6 Dashers who dashed around the beautilful Windsor Great Park, but special congratulations to the "B" team of Tony Curtin, Sharon Helsby, Cameron Rempel, Maxine McInulty, Chris Bradfield and Steve Fell who won the event overall by 15s from Elmbridge after a titanic struggle that saw them claw back a 4 minute deficit! The "D" team also finished inside the top 10, with the "A" and "C" teams, and "Mel's Milers", having a close scrap behind them to finish 25th, 26th and 27th of the 51 teams who completed the race.

It's been a long time since the club has run the Relays, and it was great to see so many Dashers dashing along.

Wow! 51 runners and, in great conditions, great times! The outstanding performances came from Jo, who clocked an astonishing 17:50 (equivalent to a 3:00 marathon!), and Sharon, who crossed the line in 19:50.
