April
A quiet month as far as Club Championships go – but the Ladies have still been doing a lot of racing!
Congratulations to everyone who ran in the London Marathon. A fantastic achievement anyway, but some of the times were just amazing! Mandy Ramsay was the first Lady Dasher in a very quick 3:43, so quick in fact that it earns her a guaranteed entry next year! Julie Lebourg was next in a brilliant 3:47, followed by Yvonne Olney - who in a great time of 3:57 (37 minutes off her PB) has broken the Club Record for this distance and qualifies for an automatic place next time. Jacqueline Brown had a good steady run to finish in 4:33, as did Mel Dowsett whose time of 5:21 is quite remarkable considering she could barley run for 5 minutes less than a year ago!
Elaine Culverwell ran a brilliant race in the Connemara Half Marathon. It was a hilly course, but that didn’t stop Elaine getting a PB in a fantastic time of 1:40 (only 1 minute behind Tom Durance!)
Sian Huntley-James had a great run in the Bracknell Half Marathon to finish in a PB time of 2:04. Mel Dowsett – who can’t seem to stop running – also ran in this event, to finish in an excellent 2:28.
Well done to all the ladies who ran in the Speedbird 5K race. Jo Logie won the event in a fantastic 18:39. Lucy Buckby also had a great run, to finish as 3rd senior lady in 20:23, and I had the best run I’ve had in ages (23:16). Kathryn Black also ran really well (24:34) as did Barbara Mason who set a new PB (25:25). For our efforts we were awarded the team prize – for the 2nd year in a row! We’ll be back next year to defend our titles.
The leader of the Ladies’ Championship is Lesley Wege, closely followed by Isabelle Huxstead. These 2 ladies have competed in 4 out of 4 races - well done! It’s a very exciting championship so far – as 4 different ladies have claimed the 100 points from the 4 races. 19 ladies are currently in the running. BUT I WANT MORE!
As you know, I NEED 10 ladies to compete in at least 6 races this year !
The next Club Championship Event is: MARLOW 5m (11.05.08)
Just do it!
but remember to do it in your dashers kit - or you won’t get your points !
March
Congratulations to Sunita Dawett for her great run in the Paris Half Marathon. Sunita finished in 1:54, but apparently could have gone faster if it hadn’t been so crowded!
There were also a lot of fantastic runs at the Reading Half Marathon: Rhian Coles had another fab half to finish in 1:42 – ahead of Colin Adams! Julie Lebourg is also running really well after coming back from injury, to finish in 1:46. Kathryn Black thoroughly deserves her PB of >5 minutes, to finish strongly in 1:55. Kathryn is convinced she can go even quicker, and with her training and determination – I would certainly agree! Annabel Alphonso also had a good run, finishing in 1:59.
There was a good turn-out at the Maidenhead 10 (Club Championship event). Elaine Culverwell was the first Lady Dasher across the line, in an amazing PB time of 1:14 – well done! We welcome back Andrea Sayer to the Club Champs, who had a great run – to finish as 2nd Lady in 1:18. Kathryn Black had yet another PB, taking almost 4 minutes off, to finish in 1:23, as did Lesley Wege – who took almost 1.5 minutes off her time, finishing in 1:21. Congratulations also to Isabelle Huxstead, who was over a minute quicker than at the Cabbage Patch 10 last year. Laura Noctor and Gaynor Benson also ran well, as did Sian Huntley-James and Tess Heath.

Jan & Feb
This year, the Cross Country season is going great guns:
At Datchet, Jo Logie had a great run and was our first finisher, scoring as 3rd lady overall. Denisa also had a flyer, and was our 2nd scorer, as 12th lady. Jo Griffiths enjoyed her first cross country race in a fantastic time, to make up the team that finished 4th (out of 13)! Welcome and well done to new ladies, Tess Heath and Raquel Jones, – who came to run with us for the 1st time on the Thursday, then ran in the cross-country on the Sunday!
At Sandhurst, Jo Logie improved on her position to finish as 2nd Lady. Mandy Ramsay also had a great race to finish 15th, and Melanie Golding completed the team that finished 5th. At Handy Cross, Salome Godwin was the first Lady Dasher, and Kathryn Black also had a great race.
Salome was first Lady Dasher again at Tadley, with Lesley Wege and Holly Seear running really well to see the team into 8th place. Isabelle Huxstead had a good race, as did new lady Barbara Mason.
Well run Denesa Polcerova – who was the 1st Lady Dasher at Finchcoasters, followed by Kate Galbraith and new lady Charlotte Glazzard. Holly Seear also had a good race, despite having a broken arm – such is the commitment to Club Championships this year!
Special congratulations to Billy Bharma – who is our most prolific Cross-country racer so far this season; competing in 4 out of the 5 races.
The Wokingham half marathon saw a multitude of PB performamces; Pritika Grewal & Holly Seear improved on their times by ~2 minutes, Sian Huntley-James & Kate Galbraith by ~ 4 minutes, Lesley Wege by ~6 minutes, and Rhian Coles by an amazing 10 minutes! In fact all the Ladies ran well on the most perfect day for running - ever! With Lucy Buckby leading the Ladies home in a fantastic 1:34, followed by Denisa Polcerova in 1:37.
The leader of the Ladies’ Championship is Lesley Wege. 17 ladies are currently in the running, which is almost the most we’ve ever had at this point in the season! Keep it up! Because as you know, I NEED 10 ladies to compete in at least 6 races this year!
The next Club Championship Event is:
MAIDENHEAD 10 (21.03.08) - JUST DO IT!
BUT REMEMBER TO DO IT IN YOUR DASHERS KIT - OR YOU WON’T GET YOUR POINTS!
The sad news for this month is that Salome Godwin and Gervase Foley will no longer be running as Dashers, both ladies will be running with clubs nearer to their homes.
A real loss to the Dashers, but we wish them well in their Running Pastures New.
