Lady Dasher news 2007

2005 : 2006

June

Well done to everyone who ran the Wargrave 10K! Quite a hot race, but plenty of water – both in cups and via hose pipes! Lucy Buckby was the 1st Lady Dasher home, followed by Michelle Allmark and Kate Galbraith – both with PB performances. Special congratulations to Jean Hayton who had a super-sprint finish and to Billy Bhamra who completed the 10K distance for the first time in a long time. Well done ladies! I bet you’re glad that I badgered you into entering now?!

Congratulations for all those PBs at the Marlow 5K - Michelle Allmark knocked a further 40 seconds off her PB, Kathryn Black another 20 seconds, and Sian Huntley almost 2 minutes to set a new PB of 25.25!

The day after the Marlow 5K, Kate Galbraith, Kathryn Black and Jean Hayton joined me in the Speedbird 5K race. We all ran well, especially Kate Galbraith who took another 20 seconds off her PB to finish as 3rd Senior Lady and help the Lady Dashers team to finish in 1st place!! A fantastic achievement – well done!

A big “well done” to all those competing in the Windsor Triathlon! In the Olympic distance Caroline Bolton was 11th lady in her age category in 2:34:28, followed closely by Michelle Allmark (13th in 2:37:03), then Holly Sear (26th in 2:46:24) and Amy Mayer (47th in 3:09:21). In the Sprint event, Sharon Helsby won the Senior Female Category in 1:35:32 and Salome Godwin finished 10th in 1:46:15. Gervase Foley finished 2nd in her age category in 1:45:24 and Jane Drapkin finished 3rd in 1:46:06.

The current leader of the Championship is Kate Galbraith – and she will take some beating this year! 32 ladies have competed in at least 1 Club Championship events, and 14 have competed in at least 2 - which is about the same as last year. SO I WANT MORE!

The next Club Championship Events are:

HANDY CROSS 5K (10TH JULY)
WOODLAND 5 MILES AND A BIT (25TH JULY).

THESE ARE DISTANCES YOU CAN ALL RUN - JUST DO IT! ENTER TODAY!!

BUT REMEMBER TO DO IT IN YOUR DASHERS KIT - OR YOU WON’T GET YOUR POINTS!

April & May

Congratulations – again! – to all the London Marathoners! An outstanding achievement on a ridiculously hot day!! Special congratulations to; Sunita Dawett who had a very even paced race to finish strongly in 4:05:56, Yvonnne Only who finished in 4:35:10 knocking 13 minutes of her time from 2004, and Sian Huntly-James who had a great first marathon putting all that hard training into practice to finish in 5:18:05.

Marlow 5 replaced Shinfield 10K as the next Club Championship event this year, and it seems to have been a popular move – despite the rain. Sharon Helsby was the first Lady Dasher home in a very swift 32:52, with Lucy Buckby (32:59) and Michelle Allmark (35:54) running brilliantly to make up the team that finished 2nd. Well done ladies! Lesley Wege also had a good run – as did Amy Mayer who is running well as she makes her comeback!

Wargrave 5K was yet another wet race –but that didn’t stop Michelle Allmark or Elaine Culverwell finshing in the top 8 ladies!! Kathryn Black romped home to a 3rd PB in 2 weeks! Rosie Delaney is making great progress after recovering from injury, and had a very good race with a strong finish. Tash Elsey and Sian Huntly-James also set new PBs, and are looking to make even further improvements during the series.

More PBs were achieved at the next Club Championship event – Burnham 5K; Kate Galbraith, Kathryn Black and Sian Huntley-James. Well done also to Lucy Buckby (1st lady dasher home) and to Joyce Clarke for being back competing as a Dasher! Commiserations to the late starters - who missed out on their rightful points – but well done for running anyway, and chasing the field down!

The current leader of the Championship is Kate Galbraith – and she will take some beating this year! 32 ladies have competed in at least 1 Club Championship events, and 12 have competed in at least 2 - which is down on last year. SO I WANT MORE!

The next Club Championship Event is:
WARGRAVE 10K (10TH JUNE) - THIS IS A DISTANCE YOU CAN ALL RUN
JUST DO IT!! ENTER TODAY!!!

March

A quarter of the way through the year, and a quarter of the way through the Championship season. Kate Galbraith is the current (and well worthy!) leader demonstrating good, consistent running in all 3 races. Yvonne Olny has also competed in all 3 events, and thoroughly deserves her 2nd place - Yvonne has been training and racing hard all year.

Wokingham Half Marathon was a well attended race – with 9 ladies finishing. Congratulations to Lucy Buckby who was the 1st Lady Dasher to cross the line, in a PB time of 1:30, taking over 1 minute off her previous best. PB performances were also achieved by Kate Galbraith (8 mins) and Yvonne Olny (over 5 mins). Commiserations to Kathryn Black who was on course for a PB, but then (in a successful attempt to out-fox me into thinking she was ahead of me!) wasn’t able to finish.

Deirdre Tuohy is running really well and is improving in every race. Deidre ran her first half marathon at Wokingham, to finish in a brilliant time of 2:00! At Reading half marathon, she set a PB to finish in 1:58. Well done Deirdre!

Sian Huntly-James has run 3 half marathons already this year, setting a PB by 4 minutes at Prague to finish in 2:06, as she trains hard for her first marathon in London.

Good luck to everyone running the London Marathon – I’m sure all the hard work and training will pay off! Enjoy it!

15 ladies have competed in at least 1 Club Championship event this season, which is 2 more than last year. But (as usual!) I want more – so
The next Club Championship Event is the Marlow 5 (miles) - THIS IS A DISTANCE YOU CAN ALL RUN ... SO JUST DO IT!

January

Another Season has started. Well done those enjoying the Cross-Country races! There certainly are a LOT of Ladies participating this year!! Maxine McInulty hasn’t missed a XC race yet this season and is running very well - finishing inside the top 12 ladies in every race, and has finished as high up the field as 7th!

Other prolific XC racers are; Kate Gilbraith, Julie LeBourg and Yvonne Olny. These ladies have only missed 1 XC each this season. Special congratulations to Yvonne Olny whose presence was vital in order to complete the team. Thanks also to Gervase Foley who completed the team at Bearwood! Thanks to everyone’s efforts, we’ve managed to field a team at all the races so far.

Kate Gilbraith is running particularly strongly, and seems to getter faster and faster each time she races. Kate finished ahead of Dave Glazier at Tadley XC, and was classified as the 25th Lady! Well done Kate!

Mandy Ramsay is also running really well, and has finished as the 2nd Lady Dasher in the 2 Club Championship events. Mandy also had a good run at Cliveden XC to finish over 2 minutes quicker than last year!

As the first Lady Dasher across the line in every race so far, Maxine is the current leader of the Championship – and I think she’ll take some beating!! Currently, there are 9 ladies in the running for prizes this year – which is 2 more than this time last year!!

The next Club Championship Event is the Wokingham Half Marathon on February 11th

JUST DO IT!! - BUT REMEMBER TO DO IT IN YOUR DASHERS KIT - OR YOU WON’T GET YOUR POINTS!!

THERE IS A SPARE NUMBER (CONTACT ME IF YOU WANT IT) – as unfortunately Caroline Briggs is off the road at the minute. We wish you all the best Caroline, and hope that you’re back running again very soon.
