The Jim Banks Handicap race was well attended, and was yet again won by a Lady Dasher. This time though, the winner didn’t set off first; Kate Galbraith set off over 5 minutes after the start, and improved on her 5K time by 1.5 minutes to win the Trophy!
Kate’s was not the only PB time on the course; Jacqueline Lewis improved by 45 seconds,
Well done to everyone who ran in the Windsor Half Marathon. A ridiculously hot day! – but that didn’t stop Kathryn Black gaining a PB of over 10 minutes! Juliet Ball was the first Lady Dasher across the line, followed Rosie Delaney in a PB time. Half marathoner first timer Jacqueline Lewis had a good run, to finish strongly within her goal time.
On the same HOT day in Berlin, Sunita Dawett ran a very good marathon and finished in under 4 hours. Well done, Sunita!
Congratulations to Mandy Ramsay who had a “Great North Run”. Mandy qualified to start just behind the elite men, so this gave her something to chase! She ran an impressive half marathon in very hot conditions and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Mandy Ramsay is having a great season, and is the clear leader at this stage of the Championship. Caroline Briggs and Lesley Wege are currently tied for 2nd – and with 8 ladies in the running for the Championship a lot depends on the last race of the season – the Cabbage Patch 10 (15th Oct).
Entries for the Cabbage Patch are closed, so if anyone has a number but doesn’t want to run, or if anyone wants to run and doesn’t have a number - please let me know, and I’ll try to match-make!

Lucy Buckby had a fantastic run at Yateley 10K to finish as first lady Dasher, and 10th lady overall in 41:51. Katie Wraight, as she returns to racing fitness, was next in a great time of 46:56. Caroline Briggs had a brilliant run, to finish in 50.03 – 1.5 minutes off her PB! Well done also to Sian Huntley-Jamesand Jacqueline Lewis who both had really good runs, and enjoyed it much more than the Woodland 5!!
Commiserations to Salome Godwin who was suffering from concussion and food poisoning, and although completed the course didn't cross the finish line!
Maxine McInulty was the first Lady Dasher at the Virginia Water Paddle in 1:00:25, followed by Mandy Ramsay – who was ~2.5 minutes quicker than last year and Kate Galbraith had a brilliant run to finish as 3rd lady.
The competitive spirit was lacking a bit at the back of the field, as 3 ladies all finished with exactly the same time! However, there were still improvements, as Sian’s time for the 1st lap was quicker than her time for last year, and this year she also completed the 2nd lap too.
Mandy Ramsay is having a great season, and is the clear leader at this stage in the Championship. Caroline Briggs is a well-deserved second, after training hard and running well all year. Lesley Wege is 3rd, and is also enjoying huge improvements on her times.
It is possible for 9 ladies to complete their 6 races –
please don’t let me down!
The next club championship event is the Windsor Half Marathon on 24th September – see Mel if you don’t have a number.
The final event is the Cabbage Patch (10 miles, 15th October). Unfortunately entries have already closed, but see Mel if you'd like to run.

But especially to Salome Godwin (1st Lady Dasher in 49.30) and Caroline Briggs (2nd Lady Dasher in 51.36) – both ladies set PBs at Yateley 4 days earlier, then re-set them by 0.5 minutes on this hot and hilly course!
Congratulations to all who participated in the Runneymede Relays - another hot day but thoroughly enjoyable, even if the Dashers didn’t retain the title!
There were quite a few PBs at Marlow 5K – well done to Salome Godwin who took 1 minute off her PB, Caroline Briggs who was quicker by 1.5 minutes, and Kathryn Williams who was nearly 2 minutes quicker!

Lucy Buckby is improving in every race; running almost 30 seconds quicker than her best from last year at Wargrave, and then another 20 seconds quicker at Burnham. Clare Hessey ran a PB time at Wargrave to finish in 22:53. Congratulations to the 5K 1st timers – Katie Wraight made a brilliant race come back at Burnham to finish in 22:35, Kathryn Williams got a PB at Burnham to finish in 26:53, and Jacqueline Lewis and Julie Brooks – who are both running really well at the minute – chasing Richard Prasad who just gets faster every time he runs! Well done to all those who ran in the London Marathon – an absolutely fantastic achievement! Congratulations to all you athletes! There were 6 Lady Dashers running this year, and it was a first marathon for all of them.
Mandy Ramsay was the 1st Lady Dasher across the line in 3:41:30! This amazing time means that Mandy qualifies for a guaranteed place next year, and she can’t wait! Mandy also seemed to have a very smart race plan, with her 4 10K split times being very similar! By running in the marathon, Mandy has also raised >£400 for Oxfam.
Ainslee Haylet had a great run, and finished in 3:54:00.
Salome Godwin crossed the line hand-in-hand with Colin Adams, in 3:59:05. This was a brilliant run, and although it was an emotional finish with Salome vowing never to do to it again, she’s already planning the next one!
Rebecca Franklin had a “fun day” and enjoyed the atmosphere, she also had a great finishing time of 4:07:48.
Caroline Briggs had an excellent run, and finished in 4:23:17 Caroline ran in the marathon for the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths, and raised >£2000. Caroline will also probably do another marathon!
Mary Wang had a good run, and finished in 5:33:26
500 miles away in Fort William, Steph Molloy and Myra Buckley ran their 1st marathon. They ran together, and finished strongly in 3:57, well within their 4 hour target time.
Thanks also to all those who helped out on the Drinks Station. It was a great day, although we didn’t all get to see all of the Dashers (or celebrities!)

March
It’s been a quiet month for Club Championship events, but the ladies have still been very active.
Huge congratulations to Jo Logie and Sharon Helsby who represented Berkshire in the National Cross-Country championships. It was a top-class field, as the 1st 3 from each category qualified to represent Great Britain in the World Cross Championships! Jo and Sharon ran really well, on a challenging, hilly 8K course. The race was televised and they had several appearances on camera, and finished in 112th (in 32:55) and 173rd (in 34:28), respectively, out of 255 runners.
Well done to all those training for the London Marathon – keep up the good work, not long to go now! Mandy Ramsay ran a really good training run at the Club’s 20 mile run. Mandy had a very comfortable run, and finished in under 3 hours!

Caroline Briggs ran a marathon pace practice half marathon at Fleet, finishing comfortably in 2:02. This time last year, Caroline’s PB for this distance was 2:15 – so a great improvement! Caroline is running in the marathon for the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths, if you would like to help her reach her £1500 target - you can donate via http://www.justgiving.com/cjbriggs
